The fighters are weighed in and everyone's set to go for one of the bigger Fight Nights in some time.

I'm attending this one live, so Greg's taking over in the FightCenter.

Why are the fights not on today? It makes so much more sense than tomorrow. Brb hold a (free on tv, so already less incentive to go, unless you're a fan of a particular fighter(s)) fight card on the day of the NFL championship games, IN THE SAME AREA as one of those games.

And then they scratch their heads in confusion and ask "why isn't our event selling out?"

The event's almost sold out, which is a pretty big feat for a fight night card. They're also going to get a metric **** ton of advertising on FOX during the NFC Championship game.

The UFC knows it's not going to compete with the AFC Championship game for ratings, but guess what? The main card starts RIGHT AFTER the AFC game ends. Absolutely perfect from a viewership perspective.

Also, the Bruins are playing in the same venue tonight, so that wasn't an option.

While I'm a big McGregor fan, I can't say I like him getting a title shot without fighting Edgar, Lamas, Mendes, Lentz, Bermudez, Elkins or Guida.

WIth that said, I do consider Aldo to be one of the best ever.  He carried his WEC title right over to the UFC and has continued to turn away every challenger.  If you consider his WEC and UFC championships as one title reign, he has defended his number one status 9 times.  That's as many as GSP had.

If Conor doesn't deserve a shot at Aldo, Aldo will make that clear when they fight.  If McGregor can beat him, then I suppose it doesn't matter that he didn't fight all those wrestler types.

@AnAlias: That's basically how I feel about it. I understand people wanting to see him defeat a wrestler before getting the shot, but hey, if he beats Aldo ... he'll have to fight all the wrestlers anyway, and he'll have defeated the greatest 145er of all time.

@ian729, they're going to pump the **** out of the card during the football game hoping dudes will carry the high from the game and card promos straight into the main event.

Don't think they give too much ****s about the prelim ratings if the main event goes through the roof.

I guess they're trying something new. I think it's a smart thing to try, a lot of guys who wouldn't "remember" to check out that cage fighting thing that was advertised during last week's game may pull a "you know what? I'm gonna check this crazy **** out" if it means just staying on the channel a tad longer ...

I know the UFC said they would increase the amount of time Siver got in the advertisements this past week, but if I didn't know any better I would think that McGregor is just going to do some Capoeira for 15 minutes.

Awesome fight night card! Parke vs Tibau is an interesting fight. Urijah Hall by murder probably. Bendo vs Cowboy, Then Connor either delivering on his hype or getting spinning back kicked in the soul
